Many of us struggle with poor self-esteem, self-image or self-love and as horrible as it sounds there are many reasons for our struggle. From a young age we are taught to behave a certain way, think a certain way and look a certain way to be socially accepted.
For example, when I was younger I was given a Barbie (as many 90’s babies did) and was taught that to be beautiful I must be skinny with long straight hair. Those of you that have read my blog know that I am far from that. If I dressed in a way that was not socially acceptable, I would be informed of it in many ways such as, “you must not have anything to do today” or “the boys won’t approach you looking that way”.
Needless to say, the things we experience in everyday life has a lasting impact on us and immediately affects our mental health. This is where blogs, like mine, come to the rescue and remind you of your worth. Though, there are an abundance of ways mental health blogs improve your self esteem, I will narrow it down to the top 10.
1. Mental Health Blogs Have Self Care Tips
Most of the blogs I have seen have some sort of self care tips! The more you care for yourself the better you feel about yourself physically and mentally. Journaling, taking long baths, yoga and the like reinforce mindfulness, which allows you to reflect upon your needs. That time you take for yourself, reminds you of your amazing qualities!
My Precious Mind Blog offers a perfect example of tips through her post about the qualities she loves about herself!
2. Mental Health Blogs Have Mental Health Tips
At times mental health disorders can play a large role in self esteem. Individuals with Major Depression Disorder and other mood disorders are at risk of low self esteem. Reading mental health blogs gives you tips on how to manage your emotions, identify your triggers and cope with your symptoms. By improving your mood and outlook on the world, your opinion about yourself will improve.
For example, my blog discusses how to cope with mental health disorders and/or symptoms of the disorder to improve quality of life. I also offer motivation and tips to improve your mood.
3. Mental Health Blogs Are Personal
It is often that mental health bloggers write to improve their mental health. At times bloggers use their blogs as an online journal, if you will, to reduce stigma and express their thoughts and emotions. Similar to other blogs, mental health blogs are niched down to specific disorders or specific tips, so it should not be difficult to find one to explore.
For example Nyxie at Nyxies Nook writes about Eating Disorders, her experience with it and tips to individuals who also have this experience.
4. Mental Health Blogs Have Recommended Products
There are times throughout the year that those negative thoughts you have about yourself happen more than other times. Personally, the summer time aka “bikini time” is a common time for me to have negative thoughts about myself. I counter those thoughts through use of products and tips.
For example, notebooks for journaling/ bullet journaling about the things I love about myself or goals I have for myself improves my feelings about myself. There are other products that bloggers recommend that will result in improvement in self esteem.
5. Mental Health Blogs Have Resources
Individuals that are struggling with self esteem could benefit from resources on mental health blogs. Resources such as hotlines that allow you to speak with someone about your emotions and thoughts help to improve your mood and thoughts.
Jen at Diffusing The Tension has resources that help with mental health and offers services to improve you!
6. You Know You Are Not Alone
The amount of information you will receive from a mental health blog reminds you that others are having similar experiences as you and have found ways to cope. Unfortunately, low self esteem can progress and lead to serious reactions such as self harm, isolation and/or Eating Disorders. The simple reminder that others have suffered and found a way through can help you through your difficult time.
Briana at Learning To Be Free has multiple pages dedicated to self discovery, self care and self improvement for individuals who want to improve in a healthy way! She also offers courses and helps you along the way!
7. You Can Participate In Challenges
Mental health bloggers occasionally develop challenges that last for a month that have the goal of improving your mental health, self care, self esteem or meet your goals. The easiest way to benefit from these are to follow blogs and participate. I often screenshot it or download the image to my phone to ensure I participate each day!
8. Mental Health Bloggers Are Available
As you will notice most mental health bloggers offer a way to contact them when you have a need. While I professionally offer therapeutic services, do not assume all mental health bloggers do. However, they are still able and willing to help connect you will who or what you need. Do not hesitate to reach out to have your needs met.
9. You Develop Relationships
By reaching out to mental health bloggers from the blogs you read, you will develop lasting relationships. Fortunately for you, it is rare for those in the mental health field to answer a question and disappear forever. Almost all of us have social media and welcome new engaged followers! Most have smaller communities or Facebook groups where they will interact with you and allow individuals to ask questions for assistance.
10. Mental Health Blogs Remind You That You Are Amazing
Frequently on my blog, and many others, there are constant reminders of how amazing you truly are! There are endless posts about affirmations, struggles with self esteem or self confidence, and resources to help you out. Reading a mental health blog is niche specific for a reason, they improve your mental health. Do not hesitate to explore mental health blogs and benefit from the resources available to you!
I hope these reasons encourage you to seek assistance and improve your self esteem. We all deserve the love we so easily give others!

While technology definitely has its downfalls , uplifting websites is not one ofthem! Having a daughter of my own has definitely taught me to be careful what I say to her and to myself!

Brilliant post – as you said mental health blogs are great because of how personal they that you are able to emphasis with the person writing but also know that you aren’t alone and that there are others like you in the same situation as you.
Anna Reel says
Yes! Jess captured that so well–the benefit of knowing you’re not alone. From the deeper darker struggles, to the lighter topics we can still relate to–there’s something so powerful in sharing our stories. To be able to say “me too.” To know you’re not the only one going through what you’re going through. There are others out there who understand.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment!
