We've been in a series on personality on the blog (in the last post, Justine took us through The 5 Love Languages), covering the basics of some common tests and ways of understanding yourself and your preferences. Something I've learned over the past few years is the huge impact personality and an understanding of self has on your ability to reach your goals, form and maintain healthy relationships, and to become the person you want to be. I've seen it time and time again in my own life as well as the lives of those around me. I think a … [Read more...]
The 5 Love Languages
When I first heard about the five love languages I was very skeptical. I knew that it had helped a lot of couples through their marriage struggles, but I didn’t see how it could apply to my single life. Why would I need to speak a love language if I wasn’t in love? However, I understood quickly that love isn’t exclusive to romantic relationships. After reading the book, I started examining the love languages of everybody around me. My family, my close friends, and even a few of my co-workers (crazy I know). I made sure to speak my … [Read more...]
Consider This Before Posting Passive Aggressively on Facebook
Ok so I have to say first: There is NO good time to warn the masses against passive-aggressiveness. It will very likely come across as passive aggressive to someone. So understand that before you get all angry and comment saying "Aren't YOU being passive aggressive by writing this??". Know that I'm really not trying to be. This is something I've seen again and again for years. I've wanted to say something but feared it would come across just as passive aggressive. So here I am finally saying something because it needs to be said. It's also … [Read more...]
My 2018 Reading List
Summer is here! I thought now would be a good time to share about the books I've been reading so far this year so you can add any good ones to your own summer reading list! At the beginning of 2018 I set a goal for myself to read 24 books this year. We're almost halfway through and so far I've kept up with my goal! Goal: 24 books in 2018 end of March check in (1/4 mark): 7 books read (5 fiction, 2 nonfiction) -- ahead of goal! end of June check in (1/2 mark): 12 books read (7 fiction, 5 nonfiction) -- on track! end of September check in … [Read more...]
A Letter of Encouragement
It's been a rough week. Depression snuck up again and has been holding me down for several days. I've come to realize that I am really good at giving encouragement to others...but not so good at encouraging myself. So I decided to do a little roleplaying. I've written this letter to myself as if I was writing to a friend. It's scary to post this because it requires vulnerability, but I wanted to put it out there in case anyone else can find encouragement from something in this letter, too. Dear Friend, I am so sorry that you're going … [Read more...]
2017 Year End Review
This has been one exciting year! For one, I relaunched this blog! I used to be at Annamotion.com, but once I decided this is something I want to continue on with longterm I worked hard to focus and develop my brand, then relaunched here (TheReelAnna.com!) on September 1st, 2017! With that in mind, many of the stats listed below started at zero from the time of my relaunch. I'm proud of myself for working hard to consistently bring new content to my blog; however, now that I have more time to give to this blog I want to put even more focus on … [Read more...]
My 2018 Focus
But first...A Review of my 2017 Focus A few years ago I started a new tradition on my blog of helping us focus our new year with one word or phrase (read more about it here and grab a free worksheet). My 2017 focus was inspired by a book I read called Chase the Lion by Mark Batterson. In the book Batterson challenged me to dream and pursue big dreams (more on it here). In 2017 I prayed continuously to ask God what I should do with my blog because I knew that I either needed to let it slide back to the freedom of a hobby or invest more time … [Read more...]
3 Keys to Reaching Your Goals
Your treadmill has become a clothes line and coat rack. The food processor has been pushed into the deep dark corner of your pantry and your deflated exercise ball mysteriously disappeared in your closet who knows how long ago. Your library card, if you could even find it in your unorganized wallet (or perhaps the junk drawer?), has probably expired. Your empty canvases and only-once-opened box of paints have collected a nice layer of dust so thick you could scoop it up and shape it into a life-sized hamster or two. This is all that remains of … [Read more...]
The Crippling Fear of Making the Wrong Choice
During my epic relaunch party in September 2017, I asked my readers the question, "What is 1 of your biggest fears that holds you back?" The #1 answer had to do with the fear of failure. Making the "wrong" choice. Becoming successful and then dropping the ball. Family suffering because of potential mistakes. Not being the person they need to be or not living up to their full potential. Failing. Have you ever experienced this fear? Have you ever doubted your decision making because of the potential risks of choosing "wrong"? Are you afraid … [Read more...]
Alexis’s E.P.I.C. Story
Introduction With our discussion on overcoming fear and with November being National Adoption Month, I thought of my good friend, Alexis Arthur. I had the privilege of interviewing her for our Fall 2017 E.P.I.C. (Everyday People Inspiring Change) Story so I can share her inspiring story with you all! She has a beautiful heart for children, especially those in need of love and care. I am so encouraged by her bravery and perseverance to chase a noble dream in spite of fear and other obstacles. As we talked about on the blog, bravery is not a … [Read more...]
