It takes a more disciplined person to grow. Self-improvement is only for ambitious people. I can’t be like them. It’s too hard for someone of my personality.
Have you ever thought that?
I would consider myself to be a highly disciplined person because of my personality and how I was raised. But even for a “disciplined” person like me, it’s a constant battle to not give into laziness!
Because, you see, discipline is hard work for everyone. That’s why it is called discipline. Some people may be extra driven and can naturally learn to discipline themselves, but that does not mean it is easy. Natural does not always equal easy.
Despite what you may believe…
Everyone can develop discipline.
I think for some people it will always be an extra challenge. Some people may never be able to reach the highest levels of discipline; however, they can still develop their discipline. Everyone can develop and improve. We may grow at different rates, but everyone is capable of some kind of improvement.
Even the people you view as being the most disciplined–even they started at your level. As I talk about in my post “I have to be perfect at this right now”, everyone starts at the beginning.
It is important to develop discipline.
You may have rolled your eyes at that statement, but I believe it is completely necessary to develop discipline if you want anything good and lasting in life.
It is how you reach any kind of goal in life.
You don’t just happen upon strength, intelligence, and skill. It takes purposeful work. Discipline.
Discipline may not come as easily to you. But just because it may be harder for you does not mean it is any less worth it.
Willpower is mainly psychological. You may have been born and raised to have a certain level of “willpower”; however, I do not believe it to be a fixed quantity. Just like strength, skill, and character–I believe you can grow your willpower.
