My life is too busy already. There’s no way I can even squeeze it in. Besides, trying to add one more thing to do today will just exhaust and stress me out even more. I just don’t have enough time!
Have you ever told that to yourself?
When you already feel like you have a million and one things to do each day and not enough time, of course you don’t want to add something else to your task-list, even if you know it is something you’d love to do.
Whenever I talk to my friends, “not having enough time” seems to be the #1 reason why they haven’t started working out or practicing something that they love to do and want to improve in. I know it is for me! It feels like it’s impossible to make time for anything anymore.
Why is it important to grow?
Know what. I’m not going to talk about it. You know why it’s so important to work out your body and mind. You know why you want to grow in certain skills that are important to you. So I’m just not even going to talk about it.
I’m sure some thoughts and answers have come to your mind…
So why haven’t you taken the steps to grow in these areas of your life?
Priorities.
I bet at least one of your answers was “because I just don’t have the time.”
My friend, you always have enough time for what’s important to you. It’s not a time issue; it’s a priority issue.
Everyone has 24 hours each day. From your lazy bum classmate down the hall, to the top neuroscientist, to the president of the United States.
So why are some people more successful than others?
Differences in priorities. That’s why.
Where you put things on your mental priority scale is how you determine where you spend your money, how you use your energy, and how you spend your time.
You can make time for what you care most about. I believe your health and growth (both physical and mental) should be a high priority.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wished The Doctor would show up with his T.A.R.D.I.S. so I could travel back in time to have a little chat with my younger self about priorities. I’d be a much smarter, stronger, and more skilled person today if I had only started sooner.
So, START TODAY!
Action Steps
Choose ONE thing you want to do (exercise, draw, read, journal, practice) and do it for just 10 minutes each day this week.
No excuses.
Think you don’t have even 10 minutes to spare? Stop and think about your day. How often do you spend time scrolling on social media? How much sleep do you get? How much time do you spend waiting for something or someone? How much time do you waste in a day? My friend, you have (at the very least) 10 minutes to spare. Even if it means getting up 10 minutes earlier or staying up 10 minutes later.
No matter what your schedule is, you can spare just 10 measly minutes. Easy peasy!
Don’t stop there! Keep going!
Once you’ve accomplished the 1st action step, keep going! Keep up this routine until it becomes habit. Add on some extra time, if you’d like.
Once you feel comfortable with that, you can try adding a 2nd task to do for just 10 minutes each day.
See the worth.
Once you’ve accomplished action step 1 for a week or two, sit down and reflect. How do you feel? Have you seen any growth? How is this benefiting you?
Seeing the positive effects will help motivate you to continue, even on your busiest of days.
Tweet your successes.
If you don’t have Twitter, share on a different social media platform or even just tell your buddy how you’re growing.
If you have Twitter, tweet what you accomplished this week by working on it just 10 minutes each day. And be sure to tag me because I’d love to hear about it and celebrate with you! @TheReelAnna

You know what’s kinda funny (in a sad way)? This post is a day late!
I consistently post on Saturdays by 4 pm, but I just had so much going on this week that I couldn’t finish this post on time.
What if I had just taken 15-30 minutes each day to work on it? I probably would’ve gotten it done on time without feeling as overwhelmed about it!
So I’m right there with you, my friend. It’s hard!
But with each new day and each new moment, I am trying to get better at managing and prioritizing my time (having a task list helps me! Read about it here) for what I love and what I know I need to take time for.
And I have improved quite a bit!
If you can get yourself in the habit of taking time for your growth even just for 10-15 minutes a day, you will grow little by little. And believe me, my friend, little by little is way better than none at all.
And, like I said, you have the time; it’s really about what you CHOOSE to use your time for. Priorities. So what do you care about most? Who do you want to be 5 years from now? You can only reach your goals by taking the necessary steps now.
So what are you waiting for??
How has this lie harmed you and your growth? What actions are you going to take this week?

Great idea! 10 minutes seems totally doable, since I spend more time than that on the train en route to work. I can commit to 10 minutes (or more) for self-improvement!
Thanks!

Thank you, CaraMia! It is definitely doable! 🙂 I’m glad the idea was of help to you! It’s been super helpful to me whenever I’m busy. We can always squeeze in just a little 10 minutes.
